A resident of Jackson, TN, Dr. Christie Manasco joined the UTHSC College of Nursing faculty as an assistant professor in July 2020. Dr. Manasco received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 1993, a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Union University in 2003, and a PhD in Nursing Education and Administration from William Carey University in 2017. The focus of her dissertation research was prebriefing in undergraduate nursing education.
Dr. Manasco has over 30 years of experience as a registered nurse with 20 years’ experience in higher education. Her focus is population health and on improving health equity and outcomes within rural and underserved populations. She is passionate about developing the next generation of nurses to be upstream thinkers and doers. In addition to her practice related to population health, Dr. Manasco maintains registry status as a sexual assault nurse examiner for West Tennessee Healthcare.
Dr. Manasco is project director of a three-year, $1.5 million Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant that uses simulation to help students identify and address issues that lead to patients’ health problems. She is also a member of a grant team that is working to expand Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) education in West Tennessee. In addition, she is part of a $3.9 million grant team for rural outreach via a Mobile Health Unit to rural and under resourced counties, for which she manages the program for Bachelor of Science in Nursing students seeking the Rural and Underserved Nurse designation.
