Undergraduate Forensic Investigative Sciences Student
Texas A&M University
Leah Crawford is a current undergraduate student at Texas A&M University, expecting to graduate in May 2025. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forensic and Investigative Sciences on a pre-medical track within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Her experience on a medical mission trip taking care of sex-trafficked orphans as a medical assistant in Cuzco, Peru has heavily influenced her desire to pursue a career in medicine. She currently works as a research assistant under Dr. Nancy Downing at Texas A&M School of Nursing. Her research is comparing genital laceration findings after reported consensual and non-consensual female genital penetration with the hopes of standardizing visualization techniques and medical documentation in sexual assault medical forensic examinations. She volunteers at Scotty’s House as a medical accompaniment volunteer in the Baylor Scott and White Emergency Department in College Station, TX. This opportunity allows her to provide informational and supportive services to pediatric patients receiving forensic examinations after alleged sexual assaults or abuse. Her ability to strive in fast-paced, team orientated environments and passion working with vulnerable children both globally and locally has cultivated a natural leader looking to serve those from all walks of life with overlooked needs.
