Dr. Ratchneewan Ross, PhD, RN, FTNSS, FAAN, is a Professor at the University of Louisville, Kentucky School of Nursing. She holds the prestigious titles of Fulbright scholar, Fellow of the Transcultural Nursing Scholars Society, and Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. Dr. Ross obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing in Thailand, followed by a PhD in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
During her time in Thailand, she served as the Associate Dean for International Affairs and Assistant President for Academics at Burapha University. Dr. Ross dedicated 15 years of service at Kent State University College of Nursing in Ohio, where she served as the Director of the PhD program and International Initiatives. Prior to joining the University of Louisville, she held the esteemed position of Cone Health Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, officially assuming her role as a tenured Full Professor on July 5, 2022.
Dr. Ross's research and scholarship focus on women who have experienced stigma, violence, and trauma, contributing significantly to the advancement of healthcare practice, research, and education. Notable contributions include her research findings, leading to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommending depression screening for perinatal women with HIV in their Guidelines for the Treatment of HIV/AIDS‐Infected Pregnant Women and Prevention of Perinatal Transmission. Another impactful contribution is the SATELLITE sexual violence (SV) assessment and care guide, providing healthcare providers with a comprehensive step-by-step approach to screen for SV and respond to and care for perinatal and OB/GYN patients with SV positive results. The SATELLITE SV assessment and care guide have been successfully incorporated into various nurse practitioner practices, curricula, and textbooks.
