Katie Schafer is the Forensic Nursing Program Manager for Providence Medical-Forensic Services in Portland, Oregon. In this role, she has worked to increase access to medical-forensic services for survivors of all forms of abuse and assault. In 2020, she helped develop the Oregon State Strangulation Forensic Evidence Kits and was instrumental in providing statewide education and training on their use. Her years of emergency department experience and work on multidisciplinary teams have given her a unique opportunity to reach many professionals in her pursuit of equitable access to quality medical-forensic care. Katie is also the current co-chair of the Oregon Sexual Assault Task Force Medical-Forensic subcommittee, an active member of multiple Sexual Assault Response Teams in the Portland-Metro area, as well as the Clackamas and Washington County Strangulation Response Initiatives.
