Rachell moves beyond engagement and influence to inform actions resulting in sustainable change. She understands the effects of complex social constructs across individuals, organizations, and communities and is adept at catalyzing collaborative, innovative solutions and meaningful action. Her work changes policies and practices that adversely affect vulnerable, marginalized, underserved (and sometimes never served) populations – particularly people affected by violence and inequitable systems.
Recognizing how professional and organizational obligations to society do not allow for professional apathy and inaction, Rachell makes a difference through innovative solutions and informed action. She guides organizations to take positions on critical issues to address misinformation, practices, and policies that are not data-driven, research-informed, or evidence-based. Rachell is also known for bringing together stakeholders for difficult conversations. Her multidisciplinary collaborations affect programs, professional practices, and policies across organizational, local, national, and international systems.
Throughout her career, Rachell demonstrates an unwavering commitment to the social contract nursing has with society and exemplifies integrity, humility, excellence, courage, and respect for people. She serves as a consultant to organizations and government agencies and contributes as a subject matter expert on numerous committees and advisory boards. In recognition of the impact of her work, Rachell received a Healthcare Hero Humanitarian award, plus several Congressional recognitions and Senate commendations. She is honored to be inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) and a Distinguished Fellow of the IAFN.
