A retrospective chart review was conducted to determine the prevalence of both external visible injury and injury visible on imaging studies, in a sample of adult patients presenting to the Emergency Department with a complaint of strangulation. All patients in this study were comprehensively evaluated by a Forensic Nurse Examiner, with a detailed medical-forensic assessment documented electronically in a standardized report format.
